McColl's stores in the MDaily conversion programme
The problem
Following the McColl’s acquisition, around five hundred convenience stores across the UK needed converting to the Morrisons Daily format. Each conversion had to absorb new categories, including Food To Go, chilled produce, household and alcohol, into layouts that were never designed for them.
What we did
We reviewed and adapted the existing store layouts for the MDaily concept, adjusting floor plans and integrating the specialised equipment each category needs. Plans went through the Morrisons approval process, with in-store specialists feeding back from store teams and that input worked into the revised plans. Licensing requirements for alcohol sales were designed in, and the finalised plans fed straight into equipment and stock procurement.
The outcome
A store-by-store conversion programme delivered through systematic planning and stakeholder sign-off, rather than a one-size template that individual stores then had to fight.
