B&Q redesigned its Décor departments store by store
Customised department layouts for every store, folding new merchandising principles and equipment into layouts no template could cover.
- Space planning
- CAD design
- Visual merchandising
The problem
B&Q’s Décor Visual Merchandising team was bringing in new merchandising principles and equipment, and needed store plans reviewed to improve racking flow and range adjacencies. Every location had its own layout constraints, so a one-size-fits-all plan was never going to work.
What we did
Our merchandising team used AutoCAD to develop customised department layouts for each store, working the new principles and equipment into each building’s actual shape and keeping sightlines and customer flow at the front of the design.
The outcome
New merchandising concepts merged with optimised layouts across multiple stores, with department presentation and customer flow improved despite each store’s distinct spatial constraints.
Décor holds a special place in my heart as in previous roles working for B&Q I designed soft furnishing ranges and developed new concept store environments, so to be involved again in such monumental change was a privilege.
